A new school was built on the Old Road at Baglan in 1873,now known as the old school., it consisted of only two main rooms,the larger partioned to take two classes of older pupils and the other used for the infants, it functioned as a
church School.The Llewellyn Family of Baglan Hall being the benefactors with £1,680 being invested in Consols for its upkeep.
Its first headmistress was Mrs.Mary Baker, the school log book shows that Mrs.H.M.Finch was there from 1906 until 1919. The school closed in 1951, but the building was used for a number of things.

Nov.28.1873. Mrs.Llewellyn came to the school and promised a Christmas tree if there was good attendence.
May 6.1905 school closed for burial of Mrs.Llewellyn of Baglan Hall.
Sept.7.1904.School closed today,for the rest of the week,owing to Neath Fair.
All local Schools were obliged to close for this
Nov.1905. attendance poor,many children had been sent to other schools,owing to no new head mistress being appointed on time.
9.Jan.1906 [ Mrs.Finch ] gave examinationsto all the standards,the whole school faied in arithmetic,and several boys were punished for bad behaviour.
July.22.1907 The Bishop held confirmation in Baglan Church.
March.19.1908 Miss Llewellyntook first class in Geography and infants in drill.
8.Oct.1908. Holiday for the wedding of Viscount Villiers children given tea party.
May 24.1909 Empire Day. The misses Llewellyn and the vicar visited to sing songs and march round and salute the Union Jack in the centre of the schoolroom.
June.16.1911. school closed for a week for Coronation Week.
June 26.1911 Mrs Llewellyn presented Coronation Medals.
July.13.1911 Holiday granted for the Investiture of the Prince of Wales.
June 18.1914 The head teacher took the first class to see the building of the new road from Pentwyn to the Travellers Rest .
Nov.11.1918 News of peace.Children cherred and waved flags and sang patriotic songs.

For on nov.3.1919 a new Head Teacher A.E.Arkell began her duties.
